About hijacking accounts in social networks and banking data

RSA Security, a recent acquisition (2006) of EMC for $2.1 billion, conducted unique researches: it made up a price-list on hacking services related to stealing personal data. They discovered that the most expensive and called-for service is getting the information about bank cards.

A price of a bank account

Hackers’ price-list represents rather crowded listing, but the most expensive service is stealing a bank account and debit card data. Such service costs several hundred dollars. In addition, a customer may receive a magnetic stripe card for only $10 or a chip card for $20.
Next, there are offers about e-wallets with attached cards but in these cases the pricing policy is different: a single payment $15 and 10% lifelong; a price depends on e-wallet balance – 25-30% for cashing out from this kind of accounts. In other words, they offer a complete service for any level of fraud and theft. Moreover, the price for services is acceptable; however, services are (for clear reason) anonymous, so they can be stopped at any moment.

To hijack an account in social networks – No problem

Well, researchers do not announce the range of prices between the lowest and the highest, though some numbers are available. For instance, an account with 500 and more friends can be hacked for $7.5.
Indeed, everything is that easy. Actually, all accounts are protected with IP access passwords; therefore, having hacked an account a crook hasn’t got enough time to use it as an account is blocked in a very short time, so it is useful just for few hours … Just to destroy a competitor’s account? It’s so meanly. Probably, that is why so cheap.
 

DDoS load

DDoS-attacks represent an artificially-made load on a website’s server; as a result a website does not function in a regular mode, becomes slow and unavailable for most of users. As a result of research, EMC corporation obtained the average price for this type of services: one-hour attack costs only $30. Only jealous and greedy people use these snide tricks; that’s why the price is obtainable even for the most stingy scoundrel.

Documents are easy to purchase…

RSA representatives also mentioned prices on document forgery but they didn’t specify types of documents.
However, it has been known that a price of a document in French or Italian is around $10, in Spanish - $13-15, while in English – from $15 and more.
Probably, the matter concerns documents on a job placement for refugees; the service is humane but whether it is legal…
